It was a breakthrough by name, and by nature. By 2013, Carlo Ruetz had been playing twisted technoid minimal for a decade, but it was his debut longplayer of that year Breakthrough that launched him into the spotlight. Within 24 hours of its release the album crashed into the top spot of Beatport’s minimal techno chart, and it remained in pole position for weeks. It also caught the discerning ear of Richie Hawtin. Since that unmissable moment, Carlo has only gathered more and more momentum; acclaimed EPs for MINUS, DEEPERFECT and KD MUSIC, alongside memorable performances at international Minus showcases and Richie Hawtin’s essential Ibiza night ENTER. Unique in sound and in situation, Carlo Ruetz is the ‘overnight sensation’ born of ten years in the trenches of the underground.
Rostockbred Carlo became fascinated by the sound of music at an early age. In his youth he was often the last person on the dancefloor in the early hours, and in 2001 he bought his first turntables and mixer, built a small studio in his parents’ attic, and recorded his first set to tape. His devotion to the minimalist aesthetic was forged in these early sets, and continues it continues to be his calling card. Carlo adopted a DJ alias “Jason Wawn” and soon became a regular fixture of clubs and open air parties in northern Germany. With his horizons broadening further, and after stepping out from behind the mask to embrace his real name, Carlo Ruetz went on to blaze the stage at ENTER. Ibiza at Space, FUSE Brussels, TOFFLER Rotterdam, 10 DAYS OFF The Last Waltz Ghent, and a 2015 tour through India.
Carlo began writing his own compositions in 2010, inspired by artists like Heinrichs & Hirtenfellner, Daniel Steinberg and Magda, and the following year he made a successful debut with I’m Fucking Famous. Handmade EP through Alfred Heinrichs and his homebaselabel Supdub followed, with further releases for Moonplay Records and Slaap Records, before the gamechanging arrival of Breakthrough through Supdub Digitales in March 2013.
Carlo Ruetz is Known for starting from scratch with every production, mining deep for unexpected sounds and arrangements, and taking compelling bends and turns while in the DJ booth. It’s no surprise that Richie Hawtin counts Carlo Ruetz as part of the new Minus generation. With forthcoming heat lined up with future releases, and more clubs and festivals switching on to the distinctive Carlo Ruetz sound, expect to hear more from this overnight veteran who exists at the leading edge of minimalism and techno.
Two decks and a teenage homemade mixer – who would have thought a school project would launch the career of the fast-rising DJ/producer John Dimas!
Drawn to the sounds of Chicago, Acid and French House, he started collecting records from the likes of Derrick Carter, Chez Damier, Ron Trent and David Duriez, before honing his skills as a DJ in his native Thessaloniki. Quickly gaining a reputation for his unique sets using three turntables and his ear for digging out a hot, rare track, naturally the international club invites followed… Le Nuit Sonore Lyon, The Rainbow Birmingham, Watergate, Katerholzig , Chalet and Tresor in his new home of Berlin.
Moving into the studio, 2008 saw his first release as duo Actor One but more recently he has been focusing on his solo productions. Conjuring up solid house basslines with tech around the edges, Dimas also loves editing to bring surprise to his sets and a few have made it onto white label. Playing live is another form of experimentation with his sets, getting creative with his own tracks to play them in a way never played before.
With EP’s on Bass Culture, Claap, Dame Music and One Records, Dimas kicked off 2013 with his debut LP. Released on La Vie En Rose, John Dimas proves he is very much part of an up-and-coming generation, pushing through with a new avant-garde house sound.

More recently Eli & Fur released the incredibly received ‘California Love’ EP which propelled them in the US and helped them gain their first ever performance on Coachella 2016.

Eli & Fur rolled out 2015 with a Thelma & Louise inspired tour through North America. Documenting every step of their 13 city tour on Go-Pro, taking planes, train, automobiles and boats, dropping into radio stations, studio sessions, TV networks and clubs. It was an unusual way to approach the US market but a life time dream inspired by quite possibly the two coolest chics ever to grace the big screen. The end result is the self-made video for California Love.
So with an impressive 2015 in the bag it looks like 2016 will be a year of continued success.
Born in Venezuela, Argenis Brito is one of South America’s most diverse and experienced musicians and anything but your average live set. His long history in the music business has culminated in him becoming an international touring artist of solid underground repute in the last 10 years, taking him to every major clubbing destination across the globe, as well as cementing his position as an in-demand producer, proven by a multitude of releases on labels like Crosstown Rebels, Cadenza, Dame Music, Mobilee, Tuning Spork and Contexterrior amongst many others. A true musician, setting him aside from the crowd, Argenis continues to flourish as a curator and entertainer of boundary pushing electronic sounds.
A resident in Berlin since 2002, after stints in New York and Santiago de Chile during the 90s, he has proven to be a core part of the ever growing scene there, finding time to play at all the major clubs in between his international tours to South America, the United States, Japan or closer to home across Europe. Thanks to the development of his live act, with performance typified by often unreleased music unique to each gig, and crossing a spectrum of influence from latin music to dub, house and techno, he has been able to ensure that his performance avoids the traps of a monotonous or repetitive sound.
The breakthrough moment in Argenis’ transition from past musical experiences into his current love with electronic experimentalism came in 2006 with his double EP ‘Micro Mundo’ on Cadenza; elevating him to many high profile gigs across the world, including several Circoloco events. Since then, following extensive studio work as producer, vocalist, collaborator, remixer or a combination of everything on the most highly sought imprints around, including most recently in 2011, Crosstown Rebels and Dame Music.
2012 sees him on the cusp of the most productive period of his career, with a new Mambotur album set for release together with Pier Bucci in spring, a new Los Refrescos album scheduled with Dandy Jack, a further solo album and countless collaborations, such as with Dinky, Mike Shannon, David Delgado and also Ricardo Villalobos with whom he has been making some really interesting sounds such as the Peculiar track released earlier in 2011 on Sei Es Drum. This is all preceded with a fresh South American tour at the start of 2012, taking Argenis back to his homeland and the source of his inspiration for his particular sound.
Argenis was instrumental in his work with Señor Coconut, Tobias Freund and Jorge Gonzalez, where he pioneered the use of Latin American sounds and rhythms in the context of contemporary dance music. The significance of this came from the early 2000s when eventually Argenis, Pier Bucci, and also Luciano, perfected this style before making it the defining sound of underground by the end of the decade.

System of Survival, Pietro ‘Bingo’ De Lisi and Alex Carpentieri, are dedicated purveyors of all that is good in house music. They’ve held a residency at the legendary Circo Loco at DC10 in Ibiza since its inception. Their ability to carry a crowd, seamlessly blend styles and support the countless guest DJs is a true testament to the role of a resident and led them to fly the Circo Loco flag across the globe.
Apart from touring with the DC10 crew, Bingo and Alex have been steadily riding a wave of popularity, gaining momentum through their own headlining dates at Panorama Bar & Watergate, Berlin: Movement Detroit Festival, BPM Festival in Mexico, Verboten & Output in New York, Womb in Tokyo and Fabric London. A commitment to style beyond what’s trendy and ease in mixing the old with the new, has earned them the title of a DJ’s DJ.
Alex explains, “Our sets have never really fit to one particular style or type, Bingo has a Soul and Funk background whereas mine is more Detroit or Chicago techno inspired so when we play it’s a real blend of the styles, making something different completely, something new.”
As true aficionados, SOS boast an extensive back catalogue of music, across styles and genres, and nowhere is this more evident than in their productions. Their first LP album – Needle And Thread – is a both a reflection on their future vision of house, and a tribute to the sounds that have inspired them to this point. After a chance listening by Ellen Allien, it has been signed and released on BPitch Control.
Their last Remixes for Roisin Murphy’s new single and DJ Pierre’s classic tune are a prelude to their new Album out in September 2016 on Get Physical.
A collaboration between three of Paris underground’s hottest exports, 2012 saw the launch of Apollonia, the imprint and DJ outfit from Shonky, Dan Ghenacia and Dyed Soundorom.
Presenting a back2back2back spectaculaire, Apollonia DJ together for extended sets of five hours or more, following a strict one-record-each concept for the full duration of the show.
Bringing their trio performance to only the most infamous clubs and parties around the world, some of their favourite annual events include DC10 Ibiza, Panorama Bar Berlin, BPM Festival Playa Del Carmen and Fabric London, for whom they mixed fabric 70 of the renowned compilation series.
Having left Paris in recent years in favour of Berlin, winters are spent locked in studio sessions in Kreuzberg, while summer it’s off to the hotter shores of their beloved Ibiza. Maintaining a long-standing association with the island’s original underground party Circoloco and holding a strong affinity for DC10, it has been their club of choice for the once-a-season Apollonia ‘All Night Long’ showcase. Appearing at Richie Hawtin’s ENTER. for the first time in 2014, they mix the Space Terrace CD of the party’s summer compilation, as well as be given the coveted honour of opening Amnesia’s Terrace, one of the biggest events of the Ibiza calendar.
To date the trio have put out their debut EP on the label, but the anticipation for 2014 undoubtedly centres around their first album. Coming in Autumn, the forthcoming release is sure to be the highlight of the year and Apollonia’s career to date.
Now in his mid twenties, Italian Luigi Madonna has been appearing on flyers since the age of just 14 when he got an early break playing the Impero II club. What was initially just a hobby soon turned into a full time pursuit for the man and now he spends his weekends playing in North and South America, South Africa and all across Europe. Born in the same town as Joseph Capriati – who has been something of a mentor for Madonna – the man’s sound leans heavily on techno in the mould of greats like Rino Cerrone, Chris Liebing, Adam Beyer, Jeff Mills, Dave Clarke and Richie Hawtin.
Since 2008 Luigi has been released on influential labels like Material Series, Adam Beyer’s Drumcode and Richie Hawtin and John Aquaviva’s Plus 8. Each of the records shows a dynamic passion for music and takes in an endless search for new sounds away from the norm. Some of the most important releases in his career include the ‘Madonna EP’ released on the influential Loose Records in 2009 and then more recently EPs like ‘In the Box’ on Excentric Muzik , ‘Venus De Milo’ on Octopus, his latest works on Analytictrail, ‘New World’ with a remix from his mentor Joseph Capriati and the well received ‘Sensation EP’ on the hugely influential Plus 8 label. These have all helped stand Luigi apart from the crowd and showcased his constant search for experimental and unpredictable sounds.
DJs like Richie Hawtin, Pan Pot and Adam Beyer have all been known to chart or play Luigi’s precision cut techno weapons in the past. As a remixer, too, Luigi is much in demand having reworked for artists and labels including Trapez, Hidden, Analytictrail, Mauro Picotto, Markantonio, The Advent, Sasha Carassi, spektre and has also appeared on a number of compilations like Best of Driving Forces, Looking Ahead on Octopus Records and Rekluse Gold Volume Two.
As for the future there will be more remixes and originals, as well as plenty of appearances on radio shows around the world. So many requests have come in recently his 2013 is full already, so look out for guest slots on Dave Clarke’s White Noise Radio Show, Adam Beyer’s Drumcode show and Marco Bailey’s Elektronic Force podcast.
